Workers' Compensation - Employee Injury Reporting

If an employee experiences an injury while working, the employee and supervisor must report the injury to Enterprise Risk Management within 24 hours. The employee can decide to seek medical treatment and workers’ compensation insurance benefits. Employee injury reporting and workers’ compensation is managed by Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and all information can be found on ERM’s website.

Consistent with applicable law, DU provides workers' compensation insurance coverage for employees who experience a work-related injury, which may include care from University-designated medical providers, coverage of incurred medical expenses, and/or indemnity costs.

Please review the injury reporting and workers’ compensation step-by-step procedure on ERM’s injury reporting website. When an employee is injured:

  • For life-threatening or serious injuries, please seek immediate treatment. This includes all needlesticks. If emergency medical treatment is needed, call 911, and then call Campus Safety at 303-871-3000 if on campus. DU employees should never transport another injured party.
  • Review the Workers’ Compensation Medical Providers list as soon as the employee is in stable condition.
    • If an employee seeks medical treatment, they must go to a designated provider listed on the Workers’ Compensation Medical Providers list. If an employee seeks treatment from a medical provider that is not listed on the Workers’ Compensation Medical Providers list, the medical costs may be denied coverage by DU’s workers’ compensation insurance, and the employee assumes the responsibility for all incurred medical costs not covered by workers’ compensation insurance.
  • Submit these three (3) forms to Enterprise Risk Management (risk@lstotem.com) within 24 hours:
    • 1. A copy of the Workers’ Compensation Medical Providers list signed by the injured employee
    • 2. Employee Report of Injury form
    • 3. Supervisor’s Report form
  • Review the remaining steps in the procedure and find all required forms at  ERM’s injury reporting website.
